Yo. Just a quick one to let you all know that I will be in and out of Mbale a bit over the next week or so. The four other volunteers headed to Jinja this afternoon to go white water rafting tomorrow. I am planning on meeting them there tomorrow afternoon, and we will all stay in Jinja Friday night and give Duncan a bit of a send off. Saturday morning, Phil, Grant and Zoe will head back to Mbale and Duncan and myself will head on to Entebbe where we will stay at the backpackers Saturday night, then get to the airport early the next morning for Duncan to board his plane back to the UK. Sad times. Once that's all done, I am heading to Kampala solo to chill out for the day...maybe get another amazing pedicure for around $6AUD...staying at the backpackers Sunday night, then Monday I am applying for my UK working visa (fingers crossed) and also trying to get my hands on an entry visa for Rwanda, as I am heading there next Thursday!
So yes, I'm a bit all over the place, but hopefully by the next time you hear from me, I will have successfully applied for my UK visa and have visited Rwanda! I hear Rwanda is very beautiful and tidy and I am really looking forward to visiting the genocide museum there (sounds morbid I know, but the whole thing fascinates me). Phil will be accompanying me to the capital, Kigali, where we will be staying with a Swedish friend of mine who is working there at the moment.
Also, in other news, I booked another flight today! So now I have my travel plans sorted out maybe 8% of the way. For those of you who don't know, I am planning to visit an Australian friend currently working in Mombasa (Kenya) towards the end of August, then I fly out of Nairobi to Madrid. In Madrid, I will be met by my long-time friend Liz, and we will head to Valencia by bus to take part in a 3-day 'tour' for La Tomatina! For those of you who don't know what that is, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomatina. It's basically the world's biggest food fight! Bring it on. Liz and I will then head to Barcelona by bus/train where we will explore for a couple of days before Liz flies off to her birth city of Copenhagen and I head to Eindhoven in the Netherlands. I have a friend who lives about an hour away from there (hi Ralf!) so I will visit him first before doing the rounds in Amsterdam and Utrecht (where I lived for 5 months as a student back in 2007). And that's where my concrete plans end! Phew.
So if you don't hear from me for a little bit over the next week or so...just wait longer. Stay tuned for pics from Jinja, Entebbe and Kigali! And pray for safe bus journeys :)
Thanks for reading and au revoir! (better brush up on my French for Rwanda)
